- Copper Moon

I came by sea
before the mountains
grew.
I came beside
the darkness,
before the copper moon
became.
I came
in silent golden
grass,
before the strong green stroke
of forest
lifted August tempered
ramparts
high
to touch September frosts.
I came
amid a host
of coloured beacons
hiding in a soft
high meadow,
not seen
till I had come.
I came by sea
among the mountains,
growing
beside the stillness
of the copper moon,
rising
over silent golden
grass,
to light
the few small alpine
flowers
growing
only to greet
a copper moon,
the silver mountains,
and the frosts
September
brings.
