So now we stand together.
But do we yet perceive
with whom we stand?
You touch the inner
surface of my soul,
and I the darkened
features of your life.
But have we really known
the meaning
of each others world?
We stand together
to find another meaning
for our lives.
We lift our hands
to upturned faces,
reaching to touch
the other surface,
and know.
Yet we would pass
into out twisted destinies,
and never quite reach
the other surface
of that other place
where we would stand.
We wish,
and yet not wish,
as our fingers pass,
failing in their understanding.
And we turn away,
not quite knowing
what we might have found.
Yet wishing,
and not wishing,
afraid to try again.
So we turn away,
alone.
And find ourselves
standing face to face.
Brought together
once again
within the mirrors
of our lives.
