The Left Hand of God

When I first
came into the world
I barely knew when
or how to cry,
but cry out I did.

Over time
I came to know
the anguish
and the ecstasy
of the world,
and my tears fell
to soak the earth.

For I found
I had been both
blessed and cursed in life,
and the gifts
I had been given
were to be paid for
in the depths of despair.

I was at once
and forever,
touched
by the left hand
of God.

Saints are those touched by the right hand of God.
We, who suffer from manic-depression, were touched by his left.
